Kevin Simm was born in leyland lancashire in 1980.
he grew up listening to artists such as diana ross, marvin gaye, stevie wonder and michael jackson to name a few.
Kevin started singing at the age of 16 when he jokingly auditioned for his schools christmas concert. After his performance kevin realized he wanted more of this and after years of not knowing where his life would lead he found himself most comfortable behind a microphone .
After school Kevin enrolled at college doing a performing arts course hoping this would give him the experience to go on as a professional singer, but after 1 and a half years of being force-fed ballet and Shakespeare realized that it might be time to move on. One good thing about college though was that he formed with an indie band as lead singer where he started writing his first songs, when college tutors wouldn’t let him practice with the band he decided that was enough for education and decided to get his experience from the pubs and clubs of the north west doing 2 hour sets to a wide variety of audiences from football hooligans to o.a.p’s! this would develop his live performance and give him the confidence to take his career to the next step.
He next auditioned for a summer season in Blackpool singing in a boy band which he got and spent the next 6 months singing 4 hours of covers every night for a measly 200 pounds a week, during the end of his season an audition was held in London for a t.v show called popstars promising the successful candidates a record contract and a shot at stardom, after weeks of auditions and his first experience of television cameras Kevin made it to the final ten candidates from roughly 10,000,the programme was based on finding a mixed sex group and making them full blown popstars,no one could of known the scale of success the show would have when aired in 2000. Filmed more as a fly on the wall documentary this show would be the catalyst for shows like pop idol and the x factor, with millions of viewers every week the group that were picked by the judges not the public were guaranteed huge stardom. Kevin was not picked and his chance of chart success looked grim once again, back to the clubs for a while at least.
During the period of the last ten Kevin became close with his fellow wannabes and as a five decided to use the shows popularity as a springboard to create their own band, they got together and wrote an album worth of songs, found a manager and visited various major labels finally deciding on v2 who offered the artistic freedom they wanted to make their own album.
Their first single charted at number 5(u.k charts) with their 3rd making number 1 winning a brit award and an ivor novella to name a few,it sold over 150,000 in its first week of release and spring-boarded their debut album which went double platinum, they went on to have over 8 top 10 singles and three albums before splitting early 2007.
During that time and since kevin has been in the studio working on his own material,a mixture of soul, pop, amongst other things, bringing himself to the forefront and showing what he as an individual artist has to offer, resulting in his solo album being released in Japan late 2008, he also filmed his first solo video for his debut single ‘brand new’ in Kingston Jamaica. This is a brand new start for one of the U.K’s most promising young artists.
