If so you probably have the start of vocal chord nodules. As a result of the nodules, you’ll find your voice becomes quite hoarse, harsh and scratchy. I remember back to when I first started to gig regularly. I started to experience symptoms that were concerning and when I went to get checked out by the specialist, he confirmed that I had the start of nodules. I thought my world had fallen apart! especially when he told me that I had to give up singing totally for 6 months. As it happens, it was the best thing that could have happened to me so early in my career as it made me assess closely just how I’d got into such a mess. I had not been using my instrument properly at all, and with the abuse came the problems.
As a result I learned the hard way, that looking after my instrument was paramount to my success as a professional entertainer and I have not had any such problems since because of my maintenance routine. I can tell you more about that another day but for now I just wanted to highlight the need for extreme self care when you are a gigging act.

Most importantly look after yourself well, in order to be able to be the best singer and performer possible.
