Often when I am doing a gigg, I tease my audience about how singing is good for arthritis. I say it’s been clinically proven but I’m not sure it has. In any case the mere fact that they think it could be a possibility, makes them laugh and feel better straight away. As an entertainer I think my job is not only to entertain the guests / audience but to take them on an emotional journey through sad songs, songs that bring back good memories, songs that they can join in to and sing along with. All this will keep them engaged with what I am delivering, distracting them from the norm, perhaps the mundane routine of everyday life and because the interactions make them feel strong emotions, I conclude based on the feedeback that I have had over 20 years of performing live for countless audiences, that YES I personally do believe that singing can prolong life or if not, at least make what life we have a lot more enjoyable.
