Do I have to be the best singer in the world to make a great living from showbiz? I’m going to tell you a story about when I first started to sing in public.

I had been living in France in my early twenties and had come back to the UK just as karaoke had started to make an impact. I loved to sing as I still do, and although I didn’t have a clue how to be an entertainer, I had a compelling desire to sing despite my low levels of confidence and belief in my own ability. I used to go to the karaoke every Sunday evening and loved to sing for the crowd down at my local pub. Now the karaoke guy knew I could sing a bit, looking back and I’m guessing he also knew I wasn’t that sure of myself so he used to put a young lad on before me who sang ‘ I will always love you’ by Whitney.

This lad sang sooooo badly and soooo out of tune it was unbelievable! It was unbelievable for a totally different reason than I imagine you’re imagining 🙂

He put so much into it, he was absolutely in his element, loving every second of what he was doing.
People just could not take their eyes off him!!!

So in answer to my question, do you need to be the best singer in the world to make a living out of showbiz? NO NO NO NO NO

Have you got that?????

No you do not!!!!!!

So stop obsessing about being the best and just be the Best You Can Be! People will love you for it and they will enjoy watching, and listening to you enjoying your talent. I wish someone had told me that when I was 20.
