Before going on stage check – the stage monitors are working
– check that they are pointing in your direction or at least one of them is
– when the musicians play loudly, quite often you can’t hear a thing, this can be very disconcerting but you can, if you try, pitch without hearing
– yes it is possible but not ideal, you do it by the way the vibrations feel in your head
– if you cant hear and feel like you’re off pitch step off stage and listen through the house system
– this is obviously easier with a radio mic
– or press one ear lobe down and listen with one ear, it’s sometimes easier if you do this as you can hear what you are pitching in your head
– it would be great if venues realised the importance to the singer of actually hearing themselves, and set the sound systems accordingly but often this is not the case – artists, male or female don’t need much from a venue
– just somewhere to hang outfits, a mirror, usually a table and Most Importantly, if they really want the artist to enjoy themselves, a monitor that works and is set properly RANT finished
Great night despite the obvious problem highlighted above.
Great musicians, nice audiences
